On September 25, 2018, the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, Ethnic Minorities and International Relations, with the support of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union and USAID Human Rights in Action Program, will host a roundtable entitled Transitional Justice as a Way to Overcome the Consequences of the Conflict and Armed Aggression.
The event is aimed at discussing the prospects of using other countries’ experience with transitional justice during the armed conflict in Ukraine as well as the post-conflict period for preventing impunity and ensuring thorough investigation of war crimes; for introducing new approaches to helping conflict victims; and for restoring legal ties with the population of the occupied territories.
The roundtable will consist of 2 sessions: Legal Foundation of Transitional Justice in Ukraine and What Can Ukraine Do to End the Conflict?
The parties invited to take part in the roundtable include Ukrainian MPs as well as representatives of the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court of Ukraine, Secretariat of the Ombudsperson, ministries, international and national NGOs, and Ukrainian academic institutions.
The event will be held on September 25, Tuesday, from 12.30 to 15.00 at the address: Kyiv, 3-A Sadova Street, room 536. Registration and welcome coffee at 12.00. Simultaneous interpretation (Ukrainian/English) will be provided. An identification document is necessary to enter the building of Parliamentary committees.
