Creation of the atmosphere of fear, helplessness and hopelessness, terror against dissidents, war crimes, brutal violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms, contempt for human dignity, the substitution of immutable values by doctrine of “Russkiy mir”, total propaganda. This is a brief policy description on the occupied Crimea. The process of latent deportation of Crimean Tatars is being made. It can be proved by Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People prohibition, cases of the Crimea entry prohibition for the leaders Mustafa Dzhemilev and Refat Chubarov, repressions, brutal violations of cultural and religious rights, persecution of Muslims, closing Tatar and Ukrainian media. Impossible conditions of existence on the peninsula are artificially created for Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians. All religious communities except of Russian Orthodox Church are under permanent pressure in the Crimea, churches of other confessions are closing. The practice of intimidation and harassment of journalists is widely used. The flywheel of political repression is gaining momentum. One of the most resonant political processes became a criminal case “February, 26”. To demonstrate the real situation and to inform the international community about the actual state of human rights in the occupied territory the inter-ethnic event “Days of the Crimea” was planned.
Round table “Political persecutions in occupied Crimea: through the eyes of the victim” is dedicated to politically motivated criminal case “February, 26”; violation of human rights on the occupied Crimea and international mechanisms of human rights protection.
Keynote speakers: Mustafa Dzhemilev, Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of Crimean Tatars, Roman Martynovskyy, Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union expert, Nikolai Polozov, a lawyer in the Akhtem Chiigoz (political prisoner, Deputy Head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People) case named “February, 26“, Elmira Ablyalimova, wife of Ahtem Chiigoz, Bariiev Eskender, expert, Head of the Crimea tatar resource center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.
