‘Post-conflict Justice in Ukraine’. International scientific conference

Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, European Society of International Law, and Ukrainian Association of International Law will bring together prominent international legal experts for a joint conference on the ‘Post-Conflict Justice in Ukraine’.
The conference will take place in Kyiv, at the “President Hotel” (Hospitalna street, 12) on 26-27 May 2017.
The UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-recurrence, Judges of the ECtHR, ICTY and ICTR, the former President of a State which has recently passed through a war, and one of the co-authors of the Rome Statute, together with younger scholars will reflect on the best suitable ways to pave the road to peace and reconciliation in the aftermath of violent conflicts. Geographical reach of our participants includes Ukraine, USA, Azerbaijan, Australia, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Russia, and United Kingdom.
More than fifty distinguished speakers will discuss issues of accountability standards under international human rights law and international humanitarian law and their application during and after an armed conflict; post-conflict justice for “hybrid” armed conflicts; positive obligations of the state under international criminal law; the role of the European Court of Human Rights and International Criminal Court; truth commissions; amnesties; post-conflict reconciliation processes; reparation for victims of armed conflicts, and other related topics.
During the event, some most recent books related to the subject matter will be presented.
